I am a mom to four teens and a wife of 23 years to an Air Force officer. We have moved all over the during my husband's career in the, but have happily settled here in Virginia, just outside of Washington D.C. Two of our kids are now in college, and two are in high school. I began making jewelry when children were very young. I started out making mothers' bracelets in 1993, and
began selling to friends and relatives ~ my craft blossomed into a part time home business.
In 2007 I began making awareness bracelets for the American Cancer Society. Little did I know, at that time, that just 18 months later I, myself , would be diagnosed with breast cancer. This photo of me above, was taken two days prior to my breast cancer surgery in October, 2008. I just completed a year of chemo therapy in December 2009. Although I had an aggressive form of breast cancer, my prognosis is excellent outlook very positive. I am blessed!
During my cancer treatments I have found that immersing myself in an activity that I enjoy, such as jewelry design, has helped me to remain focused and hopeful. I have met many wonderful people through this journey and continue to support other cancer survivors and their families as much as I can through donations of cancer awareness jewelry pieces and fundraising efforts. I have written about my journey through breast cancer at my blog, mothers precious gems
